Textile Techniques Machine Stiches In this picture i practised doing straight stich in a straight line, zig zagged line and curved line. the straight line was quite easy to do. doing the zig zag line was harder but still pretty easy to do. the curved one was the hardest one for me. after doing it a couple of times i got the hang of it and it was easy to do.
The tie-dye marbling was the first tie-dye i did. to make it look like that i rolled a scrunched a peice of material in a ball and tied it was with an elastic band twice. after leaving it in the tie-dye over night it turned out like that. i really like the marbling technique and i would like to use it for my pillow. i like how its not too pink or too white and it did turn out better than i hoped.
The second tie-dye technique I experimented on was the fold and peg. I folded the material into a fan fold and then placed three pegs near the top, then it was put into the dye.this is not how i would have liked the finished product to look like. it is too much pink and it is very plain and boring. next time i do this techinique i will use alot more pegs.
The appliqué experiment was really fun to do. The shape I chose to do was the letter 'A'. Miss lemon gave each of us a piece of vliesofix and we drew our designs on the non sticky side. We then ironed it onto our material of choice, cut it out, peeled off the backing, stuck it onto another piece of plain material, ironed it again and then sewed around the edges. i used black cotton to hold my design down. although the stiching looks thin, i chose not to stich around it again, just incase i ruined it. i am happy with the finished product.
i really liked doing this experiment. everyone got given a peice of brown paper and on it i drew a love heart. then on a peice of plain red material with the brown love heart cut out, i shaded around it. i then put the ironing cover on it and ironed it down. i liked the finshed product.
